Four creeks decide where Herriman water goes
Nearly all of Herriman's runoff ends up in four drainages: Wood Hollow, Rose Creek, Midas Creek and Butterfield Creek. Salt Lake County manages them, and the city's stormwater department runs the pipe network that feeds them. If your street slopes toward one of these channels, a heavy storm can send more water at your home than the lot was graded to handle.
The city's own flood guidance says most Herriman flooding has come from heavy rainstorms and microbursts, not snow runoff. It names hillside property that slopes toward a structure, and poorly graded lots, as the places most likely to take water. That matches what we look for first: where the water entered, and which way the ground pushes it.
Emergency dispatch
Our line at (385) 988-9410 is staffed around the clock, so a flooded basement at 2 a.m. gets the same call as one at noon.
Water-first work
We extract standing water, then dry the structure with air movers and LGR dehumidifiers instead of only mopping up.
Moisture mapped
Moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras show wet drywall, framing and subfloor you cannot see by eye.
Scope before work
Scope and price are explained before work starts, and we are licensed and insured.
What past Herriman floods tell you about your own risk
On June 24, 2021, Midas Creek, which is normally dry, overflowed between 11800 South and 12600 South. Basements and window wells flooded, and the National Weather Service reported just over an inch of rain, most of it in under an hour. Short, hard bursts like that overwhelm window wells first, so clear debris from yours and check the cover before storm season.
In September 2013, runoff from Butterfield Canyon flooded an 18-unit apartment complex and displaced ten people. Runoff from open ground arrives fast and carries mud, which changes how we clean and dry.
A different kind of event hit near Towne Center on September 20, 2018, when a water main break flooded homes and businesses near Rosecrest Road and 13400 South. Clean at first, it becomes a bigger problem once it soaks into carpet pad and drywall.
The city also keeps a sandbag supply at the west dirt lot of Butterfield Park, 6212 Butterfield Park Way, and it filled and handed out more than 3,000 bags in 2023.
When water is spreading in Herriman
Safety comes before saving belongings.
- Stop the source if you can. Close the fixture valve or the main shutoff, usually where the line enters the house.
- If electrical panels, outlets or gas appliances are near the water, call 911 or the utility first and stay away.
- Turn off power only to wet areas, and only when you can reach the breaker without standing in water.
- Lift valuables, rugs and electronics off the floor, and move them to a dry room.
- Keep children, pets and yourself out of water that may be contaminated, such as a sewer backup.
Photograph first
Take photos and short video of the water and damaged items before you move anything, for your insurer.
Open the path
Clear a route to the wet area so extraction units and hoses can reach it quickly.
Leave wet materials
Do not pull carpet or drywall yourself. We check what can be dried and what has to go.
Note the source
Tell us if it came from a window well, supply line, drain or storm.

Services in the order Herriman needs them
Window wells and basements come first here, given how the 2021 Midas Creek flooding played out. Our emergency water removal work starts with extraction units, then moves to drying so the basement does not stay damp for days.
Main-break and supply-line water comes next. Once it soaks drywall and insulation, water damage cleanup means removing what cannot be dried, then using water mitigation to dry the structure with air movers and LGR dehumidifiers.
Sewage and storm water are third. When water has come up through a floor drain or in over a lot, treat it as contaminated: that is the S500 gray and black water vocabulary, and it calls for flood damage restoration rather than a wet vacuum. Ask any company whether its crews work to ANSI/IICRC S500.
What shapes the cost of a Herriman job
Water category
Clean supply water costs less to handle than gray or black water from a drain or storm.
Area and materials
A bigger wet footprint and porous materials like carpet pad and drywall add labor and drying time.
Time since the loss
Water left standing for a day or two spreads upward into walls, which adds scope. Mold can start in 24 to 48 hours.
On insurance, sudden and accidental water damage is often covered by a homeowners policy, while gradual leaks and neglect often are not. Flood is usually excluded and needs a separate flood policy. Check your policy and ask your insurer before you assume anything.
Neighbors we also serve
Herriman shares its east edge with Riverton, and our Riverton water damage page covers that side. To the north, the South Jordan page covers the other neighboring city.
If mold is already showing after a past leak, see our mold remediation service. Moisture control comes first, since cleaning mold without fixing the water problem means it will most likely return.
